Hi all,

Post-turkey Chess Team December update for you! + some upcoming events.

Welcome New Members!

We have had a large number of parents/kids join over the past few months.  A warm welcome to you, and if you are itching for more info – start here: q300chess.com.

Congrats Girls!

The girls team (14 strong!) had a very successful showing last weekend at Girls State.  Our K-6 Under 900 and K-3 Under 600 teams both came in 3rd place, and several girls had stellar individual finishes, led by Zoe Marketan’s 2nd place in K-3 U600.  We will have a full recap on this blog later this month.

Avenues Away Tournament: This Sunday.

We are going to the Avenues tournament as a team this Sunday.  Their events are some of the better organized scholastics in NYC.  The commute is easy – 7 train to the West Side, and the location is next door to The Vessel…just saying.  We already have 11 registered, so we will have a team room, and Saudin is coming with us for full coaching support.  Unrated/novice sections are available!  Tournament info + registration link.  Early bird discount still available through EOD today.

Chess-in-Schools Away Tournament (Queens): Saturday 12/14.

This is a free, rated scholastic tournament in Sunnyside.  CIS are one of the oldest scholastic events in the city, and because it’s free, it’s always very well attended.  We already have 11 registered.  Be aware that this event is very challenging, so it is not really for beginners.  But if you are looking to improve (and don’t mind losing a few games), this is a great opportunity.  Tournament inforegistration link.

Tournament Prep / Video Lessons.

By now, I expect many of your kids have been working through Saudin’s online video lessons / puzzle sets.  If you have not, all instructions are here: q300chess.com/video-lessons.  These are a fun, interactive way to improve your game – basically virtual chess lessons available for free.  Later this month, we will also announce an online competition, designed to reward students who make the biggest jumps in their play / solving ability.

2020 Plans.

Things are starting to come into focus (OK, the 20/20 puns really need to stop).  See our full tournament schedule page for detailed info: q300chess.com/full-tournament-schedule.  Here are some dates to pencil in:

  • February 1-2: “The Cities” @ Brooklyn Marriott
  • March 14-15 State Scholastic, Saratoga Springs, NY
  • May 8-10: K-6 Nationals, Nashville (Opryland)

The latter 2 do involve travel plans, and hotel discounts are available.  Message me for the discount links, or if you have any questions.  At this point, we expect 30+ in Brooklyn, 20+ Saratoga, and Nashville may yet prove to be the biggest surprise of all.

As always, if you have any questions – just reply back.

Yours,
Sergey, Mark, Carol, Luke.
